Cloud Application Developer

Location : Hybrid Working (Offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow & Inverness).  

Type : Permanent role 

Salary : £42,853 to £48,982 per annum, plus competitive benefits.  

Hours : 36.25 hours

Overall purpose of the role

Working alongside our Database Developer, Digital Project Manager, Data Application Developer and reporting to our Data and Development Manager who leads Digital Services Development Team, you will work using agile principles to develop new applications in our cloud platform, positively impacting and improving how Audit Scotland operates. You will manage and maintain Audit Scotland’s application suite to ensure it remains functional, secure, and current. Where necessary you will also provide some third line support for our internal systems alongside the IT Service Desk. You will be required to perform on-site checks and maintenance as part of a scheduled team rota in our Edinburgh/Glasgow offices.

How you can help us

As Cloud Application Developer you will use your expert knowledge in many ways:

Application Development

Development, integration, and deployment of our cloud apps encompassing:

• Develop and support apps mainly from the Microsoft stack such as C#, .NET Core, F# or Power Apps.


• Security first design with resilience built in


• Intuitive and modern user UI/UX with cross-platform/responsive design


• Scaling applications, services, and data across the organisation


• Unit and automated testing


• Maintenance of the cloud application infrastructure and the analysis of cloud metrics to resolve issues and improve performance


• Develop and support apps which will integrate and improve our enterprise Microsoft services - SharePoint Online, Office 365, Teams.


• Use third party APIs to communicate between internal and external services, and to retrieve data ready for importing into our data warehouse.


• Alongside the SQL Developer, develop and design new data driven responsive web apps that integrate with SQL data sources and other data interfaces in support of Audit Scotland’s business objectives.


• Be involved in all stages of the SDLC including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, training, and documentation.

Team working and development

• Work in an Agile environment with the SQL Developer, Digital Project Manager, Data Application Developer and Data and Development Manager, taking part in stand-ups, consulting on client requirements and working in timeboxed sprints to deliver new functionality to our colleagues.


• Provide on-site checks and maintenance as part of a scheduled team rota.


• Provide technical information and app demonstrations at meetings across Audit Scotland and externally as required.


• Work within a team where all staff can contribute ideas, and are able to accept and give constructive, positive criticism.


• Build key relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and negotiate viable solutions.


• Research and learn innovative technologies relevant to Audit Scotland’s systems.

Support

• Support and maintain Audit Scotland’s existing web and mobile responsive applications with a view to migrate remaining on-premises applications to the cloud.


• Occasionally work as a third line support resource to help the IT Service Desk with technical projects and solutions using your insight and experience.

Specific knowledge and experience

• You will be educated to degree level in the Computer Science field or similar and/or have other relevant professional qualifications and experience. [S/I]


• Demonstrable development experience with the Microsoft stack using tools such as C#, .NET Core, F# or Power Apps and a deep understanding of developing and maintaining secure and resilient cloud applications, preferably within Azure.


• Experience working with third-party APIs to maximise the usefulness of your apps.


• Strong verbal and written communication skills and sound judgement to present complex solutions in a clear and understandable manner, providing persuasive recommendations that have impact. [I]


• Strategic and creative thinking, solving demanding technical problems where the answers are not immediately clear.


• The ability to deal with demanding situations in a calm, professional and effective manner.


• Understanding and demonstrable experience of Azure’s infrastructure and networking capabilities.


• Worked in a DevOps environment previously.


• Good understanding of data analytics, data warehouses and data ETL operations.


• A good knowledge and understanding of the business of Audit Scotland and the challenges and opportunities arising.
