This role will support the Head of HR in leading, delivering and continuously developing efficient and effective generalist HR services across Audit Scotland, enabling Audit Scotland to deliver world-class public audit and be a great place to work.

Overall purpose of the role 


The HR Assistant Manager is responsible for the way in which work is scheduled and general supervision and development of the HR team. This involves recruitment, selection, case management, dealing with disputes such as grievances, advising and supporting managers - either directly or by coaching and supporting HR colleagues. 


The HR Assistant Manager will work in partnership with internal stakeholders, external consultants and employee union representatives building productive relationships to aid success. The HR Assistant Manager will also manage more complex and higher risk disciplinary, absence and grievance issues. They will deputise for the Head of HR as required. 


How you can help us 



  • You will have a demonstrable record of delivering high quality generalist HR experience, including development of a recruitment attraction strategy / employer brand, HR generalist service delivery, case management etc. This is important as you will be managing the workflow of operational HR activities – recruitment, selection, employee queries, HR systems and leavers. 

  • You may have direct line management experience, but most importantly you will have experience of coaching and developing others and knowledge of good line management practices. You will have experience of reviewing the work of others and providing regular feedback.  

  • You will also have experience of dealing with a variety of employee relations case work and sound employment law knowledge. 

  • You will take responsibility for your own personal development and set an example to others around you. 


Specific knowledge and experience 


Essential



  • Associate or Chartered - Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification 

  • Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to develop effective relationships across the organisation, deploying a different approach when necessary 

  • Employment Law knowledge, both existing law and upcoming awareness of the changing landscape of employment law in the current context.

  • Proven experience of working at a HR Assistant Manager, Business Partner or HR Advisor level with a broad experience of all generalist HR processes

  • Experience of coaching and developing others in a HR team 

  • Ability to produce business standard letters and reports to a high quality 

  • Ability to produce spreadsheets and manage data within MS Excel 

  • Strong organisational and planning skills
